Ready for a birthday

Our second week home, was mostly about getting ready for Eli’s birthday.  We had to clean the house and such since John’s dad and step-mom were coming for the weekend.  It wasn’t one of our most exciting weeks, but it wasn’t boring!

We watched a friend’s kid one day.  So, for a day I had six kids under the age of eight.  Adding one more was not a big deal.  The big deal was keeping the boys calm, since he had a cough that would get worse when he ran around.

We watered grass in the evenings and had neighbors over to play.  One evening, John was catching up on the news and Makaela decided to climb in his lap to read with hm.  A sweet father- daughter moment.

We had some funny moments, like the night I made beef enchiladas for dinner.  It’s not a fancy recipe my family introduced us to it when we were visiting them earlier in the summer.  It’s on the side of the enchilada sauce can.  After the boys had tried it I asked if it was better than when Aunt Bridgette made it.  I got an excited “Yeah!”  Then Ian added “It’s just like they make in China!”  Oh, Ian!  Noah corrected him with “This is Mexican food, dude.”  For some reason my boys get Mexico and China confused.  It makes for some funny conversations though.

Friday as we finished cleaning the house before our visitors, things got crazy!  We moved all the couches in the living room to vacuum and the boys thought it was a perfect dance floor.  They danced while I tried to finish cleaning the house.  Noah is our dance star, Caleb is a little shy about it, and the little ones think dancing means running around doing flips.

After Papa and Lenora showed up, we all went to our favorite local Mexican restaurant Miguelito’s for dinner.  There are a few waiters that can bring our usual before we even order it; just like in Texarkana, except it’s only one restaurant.  When we got back home the boys talked Papa into playing some football outside.
