Ice Dig
We tried the “ice dig” idea out. I froze a few toys. One larger bucket and one small Tupperware container. I wasn’t sure if the bigger kids would like the idea so I thought I would take a small step first. I didn’t tell them about it until I had heard the infamous “what can we do, mom?” one too many times. Then I pulled them out. I told them to pretend to be archeologist and dig out the “fossils” in the ice. I told them to go get their tools to help. I did give a small bottle of water to help, but didn’t give any other instructions. I just told them to get their tools and dig the stuff out. This is what happened.
When I said tools, my boys didn’t mess around. They got their power tools! Yeah, you know who their father is, so you can understand where they get it from! Noah was hammering the ice block so hard he broke off part of the hammer. After some time, I showed them the water bottle and tried to talk to them about being “gentle” so as to not damage their fossils. No luck, they kept pounding away. They did enjoy it, because they have asked if they could make their own ice fossils. We just haven’t taken the time to do it again, yet.
