I’m taking a break from writing about our Oklahoma Vacation to write about our little Makaela. I’m afraid that if I wait too long I will forget the conversation we had last night.
A little background. Makaela is growing fast! She is talking a lot now. A few weeks back as we were watching Swamp People she said “alligator”. Now, if she had just randomly said it I probably would have never figured out what she was saying, but in the context of the show, John and I were very shocked. Our eyes got big and we looked at each other in disbelief. Every once in a while she says a word that we never knew she could say, like alligator.
We have been working on names with her. It was only here recently that she was able to say Caleb’s name. So, now we have Wo-ah, La-leb, Ee-an, Ee-ye, Mommy, and Daddy. Oh and of course, Lady. Since Eli’s name sometimes can sound like e-i-e-i-o from Old McDonald we have been saying e-ye- e- ye – o for his name. Silly, but a little funny. We’ve also been working on Makaela, which can be turned into everyone else’s names, Mine, or just a laugh.
Then somehow we started introducing the potty. I’m not really sure if she is ready, but she has been asking to get on the potty, so not going to fight it. It started before baths and now is happening during diaper changes. I use Eli’s Lighten McQueen potty seat for her, so she asks for “Eli’s potty” when she wants to try. She sits on there for a really long time; longer than any of the boys cared to just sit. So, while we are sitting there we sing, go over names- including the names of the characters on the seat. Last night was no different. I changed her diaper and she said “Eli’s potty”, so I let her down and she ran for the bathroom. This was our conversation:
Makaela: points to a character
Me: Luigi
another character
Me: McQueen
another character
Me: Doc. So who’s Makaela?
Makaela: hands in the air ME!
go through the characters again… John is looking for us in the middle of this
Me: (wanting John to see her say me again) Who’s Makaela?
Makaela: points at another character
Me: What’s your name?
Makaela: Belle
Me: I thought your name was Makaela?
Makaela: Belle
Belle is one of her favorite babies. She has baby Belle and two cabbage patch cuties named Bunny Baby, and Tiger Baby. When you tell her goodnight you have to make sure to kiss her babies too or you will get them shoved in your face. I always ask if I can have a kiss from mommy’s baby and she will sometimes give in and give me a kiss. Other times I get a cabbage patch head to my nose. Which then turns into let me point and name all your parts of your face. She’s a mess! Gotta love that little girl though, she is just too darn cute for you not too. It’s a little sad seeing my little baby girl growing up.
Here are pictures of her from this past Sunday wearing her first necklace. John bought her the charm from Notre Dame in Paris and we got a chain for it this past weekend. We agreed she looks very grown up with it. She wore it without playing with it and loved showing it off! I tried to tell her that it was baby Jesus and His Mommy on the charm. So, when I asked she would say baby or mommy.
To get one sweet picture you had to go through the other sillier faces of Makaela, all still cute!
Yes, “Belle” is getting bigger, but is still our little princess!
