The Alamo-
This was a first for the kiddos. Things have changed a little since my last visit. This time they had someone outside and she said that admission is free but all they ask for is a picture; which can be purchased when you get to the gift store part. I thought it was neat especially after seeing our family photo because everyone was looking at the camera on the first take! They were also doing some renovations, so the plaques of those that died were on stands instead of of the walls. It made it easy for the boys to look for the name Jessie B. Bowman. He is a distant relative- hopefully I get this right, he was my dad’s cousin’s grandfather. There may have been a great it there. The Gallander family tree can get confusing! Noah and Caleb were interested in understanding what the Alamo was all about. As we walked around before going into to the store, we caught the History of the Alamo told by a person who worked there. I asked Noah after it was over if he learned anything and he said he did; but it was a long story. I’m sure they still don’t really understand what happened, but they got an idea. We then when into the gift shop and they really liked looking at the model of the Alamo during the battle. I think that really helped with an understanding of just how out numbered those in the Alamo were. It’s a good start for these Texas boys.
Right across the street we stopped into Del Sol. I think the science teacher/ kid in me takes over in this store. It is too cool! All the kids have shirts and I have a bag already from there. This time we opted to get the boys a frisbee and Makaela and I got finger nail polish. John also got Makaela a flower clip. The great part about all of them is they change color when exposed to UV rays! Check out the toes!!!
Our next big adventure was at…
DinoQuest-
This was in the Rivercenter Mall. I thought it seemed a lot more interesting online than it did in person. The boys enjoyed it I guess, but I know John and I were getting tired and hungry. The tickets are all day, so you can actually leave and come back. We didn’t. I think we watched every video and looked at every dinosaur, so we got our fill.
The boys enjoyed the videos. The graphics were pretty good and as always the TV version wins over the replicas that don’t move.
Eli decided he was a dinosaur, so through most of the exhibit he walked around growling. The little dino below was hungry looking for something to eat. I’m not sure if this was really worth the money. As always dinosaurs are big in our house, but I’m just not sure if it would be something I would do again.
Then we left the mall to had to Hard Rock Café for lunch. Along the way we got a picture of St. Anthony aka San Antonio. I also go one of a few of the boys with the calm waterfall in the background.
At lunch everyone left the table, so to keep Makaela busy I tried taking pictures. Yes the “cork” was used since it was the only thing to shush her. We figured out she cut a few more teeth which explained her fussing and over attachment to mommy. Okay, her more than normal over attachment to mommy.
After lunch, swimming, and resting in the hotel, we went out for dinner. We ate at Joe’s Crabshack and learned a lesson about our crawfish eaters. Usually when we go to Joe’s the boys get something off the kid’s menu. This time Ian and Caleb really wanted crawfish, so we let them split a crawfish steam pot. I also got one so that way if they needed or wanted more I could share with them. They ate ALL the crawfish out of their pot and mine. Then went looking for more. Lesson learned- the boys can only order crawfish if it is all you can eat! They ate some of the shrimp, but they mostly let me have that. Yes, we have some crawfish crazy boys!!!
We went back to the hotel packed up some. Then the next day we ate breakfast, packed, and headed home. We enjoyed our time in San Antonio, but everyone was happy to be home!
Until next time, San Antonio, adios!
