A Girls’ Day

After Mimi’s birthday, the kids and I went to my mom’s.  A college friend was in Texas visiting her parents, so we planned some girl time.  We don’t get to see each other often.  She lives in Pennsylvania so if she is anywhere in the state of Texas it is a whole lot closer and I wanted to take advantage of it!

Kelly and I date back to Texas A&M in Galveston; we won’t say exactly how many years.  She was one of the first people I met there and we have been friends since.  We also spent some time together on the Aggie Crew team.  That was back in my “work out” days my freshman and sophomore years in college.  She is still an avid running, and I wish I was.  I was blessed to be one of her bridesmaids in her beautiful wedding in Colorado Springs to an Air Force grad, Dallas.  They have three cutie pies that are about the same age as some of mine.  They are also trying to adopt.  I say “trying” only because it seems to be a real waiting process.  She says she is not a patient person, but I think God has taught her to be one.  She trusts in Him and lets Him guide the process, which is inspirational to me.

The original plan was to meet in West, TX with as many of us “girls” that could make it and bug our friend Adrienne who was due to have a baby.  The other girls couldn’t make it and we didn’t really want to bug Adrienne, so we decided to meet for the day.  We met in a little town in between my parents’ and her parents’; Fredericksburg, TX.  Neither of us had been there and what I saw online, it was a cute little town with shopping and wine.  We looked through the shops, talked, ate some Blue Bell ice cream (Kelly can’t get it in the north, so is a must when she is “down south”), Kelly also had peach cobbler (I should have also, just so I could say I enjoyed some of the famous Fredericksburg peaches), and enjoyed the company.  We didn’t sample any wine, but found out lots of information to plan our next girl’s weekend with all of our friends.  We found all this information at our last stop before we were going to part ways.  We also found out that Luckenbach was right down the road.  I saw something mentioned about it online, but never realized it was such a short drive.  So, Kelly and I jumped in our cars and drove out there for a short visit.

She had been there before, freshman year in college; and I had never.  It was a lot smaller than I expected.  I didn’t really know what to expect, really.  It was just a dancehall and other buildings.  We bought t-shirts for us and the hubbies.  Then took some pictures.

We enjoyed our visit together.  We missed everyone else that was unable to make it.  Understandable though, with work and babies.  On my way back to my mom’s I took the back way to be faster and missed my turn.  It took WAY longer than it should have!  I think I may have been a little distracted by the hill country sites, thinking about all my awesome friends from college, and how blessed I was.

With that view it is easy to be distracted and that doesn’t even do it justice!  I had a great Girls’ Day with Kelly, but I enjoyed all the hugs I got when I made it back to Mom’s.
