DIY John

So, after John finished up with the yard projects he had a request from my sister for bookcases.  Lauren recently moved into a new apartment and found out that she had collected more stuff than she had shelves for.

DIY John to the rescue!

After some planning he came up with three bookcase designs.  One was a simple bookcase like he did for Noah’s room.  Then there was the “triangle” bookcase for a hallway area.  He designed it so it wouldn’t mess with the flow of the hallway.  Then there was the rounded corner bookcase.  They all turned out really well.  My mom decided that she would stain them, so we left them unfinished and shipped them off with my Dad.

Of course as with every project, he has his helpers making sure that he’s doing it right.

Then he didn’t stop there.  Oh, no not DIY John.  Winking smile  He has made a few more things for the kids.

On the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend, he decided to build a picnic table for he kids.  He did a really good job. He even tried out the sample stain he bought for the deck on top to see how it holds up before we buy any for the deck.  He drilled a hole in the center of the top to stick an umbrella.  It was laying around the attic and looks great on the new table.

That Monday, they enjoyed eating lunch on their new picnic table.

Then we decided to rearrange our garage.  He had been planning on building a ball holder for the boys, but we weren’t sure where we wanted to put it.  So, the garage was changed up to maximize space and reorganize where we had the kid stuff and John’s work stuff.  We still have a lot to do to make it the “dream garage”; but it’s a start.  And John decided he would just make the ball holder on one of the shelves.  It was simple and the boys think it’s cool!

He is currently working on a cabinet above his work bench in the garage.  He is using it for “practice” before he starts on things I would like for the inside of the house.  Also, I’m terrible about narrowing down what I want.

I know he would say these projects aren’t much.  I’m sure he would have more done if he didn’t have to do other things, like mow the yard!  Winking smile
