So, with a mom that was a science teacher and an design engineer for a dad you would expect something awesome on a project like this. I let John take the lead on this design. Noah was just wanting something that didn’t break the egg. After some brainstorming and shopping. The boys worked on what they thought would be their first try. The had bought some foam from the fabric store. It’s the kind you can use for cushions and cut it into two small squares that could be put together. They carved out a little area in the middle for the egg. The put rubber bands around the squares, set up the ladder, measured the distance, and 3-2-1 drop!
Then opened it up….
It worked!! They tried dropping it again even higher and it worked. I now get to take supplies back because I can’t think of any other reason to use them. They were to help build a “box” to go around the foam to absorb shock. John learned not to over think in a elementary project. I learned, let John do the project!
Last Friday, was the Egg Drop at school. The teachers took all the kids’ projects up on the roof and dropped them. The kids were so excited. Of course I had all three of the little ones. Ian and Eli blended in with Noah’s class. Noah was excited to have them there, but it was his best friend that seemed to watch out for them. He is in the purple shirt below, Noah is in the A&M one. Makaela on the other hand, stayed close to me. She wasn’t so sure what to think of all the noise and kids that kept coming up to her. The little girls in Noah’s class really wanted her to hang out with them.
Noah ran up to get his once it was dropped. Then when everyone’s had been dropped the class took turns seeing whose had broke. Noah was excited to see his was still in one piece!
Now John has a year to think of a new design for Caleb!
