Proud moment
Noah and I went to his First Reconciliation Prep classes on Sunday night and in the car I asked him about what they talked about. He made me proud when he told me they were talking about how Mary found out she was pregnant with Jesus and then how Joseph found out. He said before his teacher could even ask the question he raised his hand to tell them that Joseph found out about Jesus in a dream. I asked him where he had learned that and he said in the books at home. Then he described two of the children bibles we have and said that the story was in both of them. We went on talking and he surprised me again, by telling me about how he couldn’t remember John the Baptist’s name but remembered the story I told him about his dad. I guess he does listen to me even when I think he isn’t. Such a good feeling! A reminder we are raising good kids!Teamwork
John has been trying to get the boys to give their team-mates high fives and such after they score a goal during games. He wants them to promote teamwork. At practice on Tuesday I actually saw Noah patting his team-mates on the back and saying good job a few times. I hope this continues on game day.Mommy’s School
We had a few days of Mommy’s School. I’m finding it harder and harder to motivate myself to continue with it, so instead of forcing it I cut it down to just a few days a week. I’ll do more if I’m feeling up to it, but as for now two or three days a week is good. I told John one night this week that I liked teaching a larger group because at least you have one student that will get it. That was always such a relief, that you weren’t a total failure as a teacher. He did mention the flip side of that, at least now I only have to get one student to understand instead of continuing to try and beat my head up against the wall until all 75 or so of my students got it. Example of what I’m dealing with. You can ask Ian “How do you spell your name?” He will answer “I-A-N.” Then you can ask him what a few letters that we have been working on for the past few weeks are, N being one of them; and he can’t tell you which one is the letter N! He can write his name in capital and lowercase letters too!! Why he doesn’t know the letter N is beyond me!! I keep reminding myself that Ian can either be the kid who you think couldn’t tell you which way is up or the kid that you might want to have tested for being a genius! Problem is you never know which one will show up each day or even at that moment. It does make me feel a little better when I hear Eli walking around singing the months of the year or the ABC’s, I think maybe I’m getting to someone!Halloween Dress Up
We did try on some Halloween costumes for the little kids. I took a few pictures as we played dress up. When we had Makaela, John made the comment that the lion outfit that all the boys have worn at least once, wouldn’t be able to be used for her. I told him we would make it work, put a tutu on it and a bow and now we have a girl lion. So, we tried it out! My mom gave me a costume that she made for me when I was little. I’ve had it for years, but the boys never wore it, so we played dress up this year with Makaela. Eli could fit the horse outfit, so I think he will go as a cowboy this year. During this a friend of mine called and I was talking to her for a little while when I heard screaming, she also heard it; Makaela has some lungs! The boys had taking out the pirate swords and Eli and Makaela were fighting over one. Those two fight over everything some days!Another tooth
I’m happy to announce that Makaela has another tooth that has finally broken through. I know at this point that is not big news, but it is. I had a few wonderful siblings (sarcasm) tell me that Makaela looked like she had two Chiclet's for bottom teeth in her birthday picture. I know it does look a little like that, but I think that is what makes her SO cute! I love that little smile. Soon there will be another tooth in that smile.I think that is about it for this week. Wow, October is almost over!
