Dentist, Rain, and Experiments

Looking back at the last full week in July, we were really busy.  Well, busy even though we didn’t have any major plans.  We had a dentist appointment for Caleb, Ian, and Eli on Wednesday. They did very well.  The ladies in the office and the dentist are always in awe of the kids.  The kids think the dentist is fun.  This was Eli’s first time to go by himself to get x-rays taken and his teeth cleaned.  I was very impressed!  After that we had errands to run and groceries to get, so we went out to eat at a VERY crowded Chic-fil-a.  We were trying to find a parking space when Noah asked “Why does everyone want to eat here?”  Eli answered “To save a cow.”  We all thought it was very funny!

It has been HOT!  We have had a few storms that form off to the west of us.  We watch the dark clouds build up and the boys get excited thinking it will rain and nothing happens.  We watch them move on past us and someone else gets to enjoy the rain.  Then Thursday morning we had a rainbow.  We hoped it was a good sign of things to come.  Then the sun came out and it got hot again.

Since there was no rain we were able to do a science experiment on the deck.  We figured out what dissolved in water and of course what didn’t.  Since there are five kids and everyone has to be able to “do” the experiment I think I pulled out random stuff out to test.  We had the normal stuff like sugar, salt, pepper, and kool-aid.  Then I grabbed things like the Slap Your Mamma seasoning.  This is one the boys love to say when John uses it, they also enjoyed being able to figure out if it dissolved.

After our science experiment the boys stayed outside to play, Makaela came inside to play and I cleaned up.  Makaela had her babies and a few toys in the kitchen, no biggie.  I was folding clothes in another room when I noticed that Makaela was quiet and went to check on her.  I found her laying on the kitchen floor, asleep.  I think she learned this move from Lady!

I woke her up and decided it was time for lunch.  It took me saying “Do you want to eat?” to get her up.  Shaking her gently, doors opening and closing, and talking did nothing.  She was tired!

That afternoon we noticed that it was really dark off to the north and west of us.  We went outside to watch.  The boys saw lighting way off in the distance and would tell me we needed to go in.  I told them it was far away and we were fine.  It was really neat, at first the wind stopped and everything seemed calm.

Then the wind picked up and the temperature dropped which was very nice.  We hung outside until John got home, then went inside to eat.  A while later we had RAIN! Not much but we were happy for anything.  After dinner the kids played outside while it was still raining just a little.

Crazy to think July is already over!
