As I was painting Monday, the boys were on the deck yelling at me. I made out the word “snake” and went outside. Since, we built the deck we have told the kids not to play under it. We have lots of toads, or did have, and knew that they would attract snakes. The last few weeks they have been hunting toads and putting them in their fort. They were trying to get under the deck to reach a “really big one”. Monday, they were playing when they saw a snake skin right outside our back door under the deck.
You can’t tell from the pictures, but it was a decent size snake. I have now told them no more keeping frogs in their fort, hoping we don’t find one down there next.
We didn’t have any plans for the week. Tuesday was the normal grocery day, Makaela decided to take her talking Bonnie with her. No, biggie until boys decided to put her on “try me” mode where all she says in a high pitch voice “Hi, My name’s Bonnie!” over and over. If shopping with five kids wasn’t annoying enough!
There was playtime outside, where I found out that the boys have taught Makaela how to hang from the door frame on the fort. She climbs on the bench by herself and grabs hold, then lets go. Why am I surprised?! She was climbing before she could walk!
One night we had wings and Caleb won the messiest face award that night!
Wednesday, I got a phone call from my Dad. He was visiting my Mimi. I got to say hi to her and then as I got off the phone with Dad, he said he was thinking of coming to visit on Thursday. I had thought I would start painting our dining room, but turned my efforts into cleaning the house. He showed up Friday afternoon with Rachel and Ethan.
I played it smart and did not tell the kids until I knew they had left. When they got here the noise level in our house went off the charts! The boys of course jump right in and start wrestling with my dad. Makaela finally warmed up to him and they played with a few of her dolls.
After dinner and unloading fire wood Dad brought; then loading rocks for Mom we introduced Rachel and Ethan to some front yard football. Eli and Makaela hung out with Papaw.
Saturday, Dad left and we took the kids to see Ice Age 3D. At first we were the only ones in the theatre so we took pictures of everyone with their glasses on. What a cool crew!
They all enjoyed the movie. Daddy magic finally got Makaela to take a nap, after she ate her fill of popcorn. Then it was back home. That evening we introduced Rachel and Ethan to sprinkler football, but I forgot to grab the camera and take a few pics.
Another good week of summer comes to an end. This next one will be busy as we get ready for even more family to visit! Thank goodness I have Rachel and Ethan here to entertain!
