Ian’s girl- friend

We were outside one late morning, the week before school, when the new little girl next door came over to play. She is already five and starting kindergarten, so closest to Ian’s age.  The boys were playing tag in the driveway and tried to get her to play, but all she wanted to do was chase Ian. She then ran home and got a video game to show Ian. When she came back of course all the boys gathered around to see the game.  She then decided that Ian and her needed to move to the garage because they needed “alone time”.  Two words that of course sent this mom on high alert!

I stayed back but made sure I could see them or sent someone where they were.  Yes, I encouraged Noah and Caleb to spy on their brother.  I had to give them a few lessons first.  They were a little lost about the “pretending to do something else but really looking at their brother.”  Thank goodness they watch spy shows/movies.  Every time Noah and Caleb went where they could see Ian and the little girl, she would get upset and try to run them off.  Then she would move to another part.  I sent the boys inside to peek through the windows.  She kept getting upset changing places and repeating those dreadful words “alone time.”  The final straw was when Ian stomped and repeated her.  I asked Noah for the time and decided it was time for lunch.

In the girl’s defense, she has two high school aged siblings and I’m sure “alone time” is said a lot in her house.  She seems like a nice little girl.  I’m not going to mention this to her mom, unless it become an issue.

During lunch we had a looonnnnggggg conversation about there is NO such thing as “alone time” with a girl EVER in my house.  And to get used to the spying because that is the job of the sibling and mom will continue to encourage it.  I told them about how one evening Dad and I came home from a date, when we were first dating and we sat on the porch to talk and look at the stars.  The next thing we saw were two little faces in the windows- my brothers, Sam and Zach.  They thouht the story was funny, but I wanted to let them know it really is part of being siblings.  Through all of this I found out that I am going to have a REALLY hard time when they start dating.  Good thing there is Makaela.  She was the only one that was able to follow Ian around and the little girl not get upset.  I guess she might have to go on dates with her brothers!

We always knew Ian would be a lady’s man.  I think it’s the blue eyes and smile.

The best part was when John came home. I told him the entire story and Noah was with me to add his point of view.  Then Ian came in the room.  John, “I hear you have a girlfriend.”  Ian, “yay” (think Texas twang).  John, “What’s her name?”  Ian, “uummmmm, I forget.”

That’s our Ian!
