Babies Growing Up

My baby girl…

A while back this was Makaela in the baby bed.

She looked like she was ready for the big bed.  I was enjoying her in a baby bed.  It seems that once the kids get in their big bed they can get out of bed whenever they want.  In the case of the boys, that was always early!  Makaela so far seems to be a late sleeper, like her mommy.  I love it.  In the mornings when I’m rushing to get the boys off to school, she would either still be asleep or playing with her babies.  To see if she was ready, we had her sleep during nap time in the toddler bed.  We set it up in one of the boys’ rooms just to put it somewhere until it was time to put it in her room.  She did well in it, so we waited after John’s trip to make the move.  Also, John needed to fix the toddler bed since it was shifted in the move and we stained it again to match the dark wood in the house.

The pictures were from her first night in her big bed.  The drawers took a little longer to dry so they were still outside.  I don’t know if you can tell from the pictures, but I did use the fun noodle idea I saw on Pinterest.  In the past I had just put the boys in their beds and then put pillows on the floor, since it was certain that they would fall out.  I bought a side rail system with Caleb and didn’t really like it.  It created a gap that he got stuck in.  The noodles work pretty well.  John woke up with Makaela one night and she was on the floor.  A few times I’ve gotten up with her I couldn’t tell if she fell out or if she just got out of bed.  The noodles do move when she tries to slide out of the bed.  I bought the smaller noodle and I think I should have gotten the larger one.  I might just get another one and try it.  It’s an easy and safe fix.  I put one on the wall side of the bed also, so she couldn’t get stuck between the bed and the wall.  It works well.  No problems there.  I’m glad she loves her bed.  I catch her sitting in it with every baby talking and playing during the day.  In the mornings it’s pretty cute seeing her walk into the living room carrying her babies and blanket with her hair in her face.  She will still sleep late some days and others she rolls out of bed with the boys at 6:30.

My baby boy…

During our yard work these past few weeks, we were working after dark a little.  Eli’s tricycle was out and was accidently ran over with the tractor.  We felt bad that it was broken beyond repair, so we went shopping last weekend and got him a bicycle.  He was so excited getting a big boy’s bike.  At first he was unsure how to pedal.  Noah and I worked with him trying to get him to figure out how to push the pedal forward.  I was pretty impressed with Noah for trying to help and not giving up too quickly.

He pedaled over to me at one point and asked if he could take his training wheels off.  I laughed and told him he had to learn to pedal first.  Part of Eli’s problem was pedaling backwards and breaking.  The tricycle didn’t do that, so this was something new for him to figure out.  It was also a little tough for him to figure out when he should use that break.  He decided to use the bumper to help him stop this time.

By dark he had if figured out for the most part where he was riding on his own. There is that “cheesy” grin of his!!

He is chasing after the older boys now.  He really likes going “fast”.  Every time we tell him to watch out as he zooms down the hill part of our driveway, he tells us he needs to go fast.  He has taken a few falls because he turns really sharp.  Crazy boy!

My other baby boy…

Ian has been wanting his training wheels off his bike since he got the bike for Christmas.  Shortly after Christmas I took the three little ones for a walk, letting Ian ride his new bike.  For some reason Ian kept swerving and going into the grass.  I told him before we took the training wheels off he needed to figure out how to steer his bike.  He had gotten used to the new bike and we kept saying we needed to take the training wheels off.  I don’t know why it took us so long.  On the same day Eli got his new bike, Ian got his training wheels off.  So it was a bike day.  Ian basically got on the bike and went.  There are a few little problems and falls, but overall he was quick to pick up riding without the training wheels.

They always grow up faster than you want them to. But no matter how big the get they will always be my babies!
