This year we spent Christmas with John’s family. We drove up the Saturday before with the car LOADED! It’s always interesting seeing how much you can cram into your car on trips like this. We had luggage for four days including snow gear, Christmas presents for five kids plus the extended family, a dog, and a few other odds and ends. We got there and were able to get settled before dinner. Everything was going fine until we noticed Caleb was running a low grade fever. That evening Papa and Lenora had rented a SUV limo to take everyone to see Christmas lights, but it was a surprise to the kids. Right before the limo was supposed to show up, Caleb threw up. We debating on me just staying home with him, but we didn’t want him to miss out. He said he was feeling better so we took supplies just in case. When the limo showed up the kids were super excited. They hadn’t been in one before.
Caleb slept most of the time and actually didn’t get see many lights, but was still glad he got to ride in the limo.
We went to Chickasaw, OK where they really know how to light things up. Caleb and I stayed in the limo while everyone else walked around. We did drive through some of it, but Caleb didn’t feel like sitting up. Poor baby. It was COLD, so everyone else didn’t stay outside very long.
We also drove downtown OKC to see the lights there. Then we stopped by a house that had the lights synchronized to music. It was really neat, but the best part was probably when Santa stopped by the limo. He was walking around with his elf and a bag of toys for the kiddos. The four kids were sticking their heads out the window when they saw him. They all got stuffed animals from Santa. Noah got a Snoopy and the rest got a reindeer. After that we headed back to the house. The kids all thought it was pretty cool!
The next day was Christmas Eve and Caleb was still not feeling well. We just stayed around the house and tried to figure out what was going on with him. The plan was to go to Mass that night, but Caleb was not going to be able to go. Vance and Lenora offered to stay with Caleb so the rest of us could go. After a lot of debating, we went. It just didn’t feel the same without Caleb. Needless to say we didn’t take the normal all dressed up Christmas Eve pictures since Caleb wouldn’t have been in them. I think we might have to redo it another day.
Christmas day the kids woke up and were excited to see all that Santa had brought. John and I were glad to see that Caleb was feeling better. Christmas morning can cure any sick kid!
The kids also got one more gift for Christmas… SNOW!!
After we got some accumulation we bundled everyone up and went outside for a little bit. I forgot to pack gloves, so Makaela started to cry when her hands went numb after throwing snow. Eli didn’t really like being cold, no nap didn’t help. Noah and Ian would have probably stayed outside longer, but I really didn’t want anyone else getting sick.
We had a wonderful Christmas Day with family. We watched snow fall, watched movies, played with new toys, and caught up on some sleep.
