I feel a little bad about Thanksgiving this year. We really didn’t focus on it it much. Our Thanksgiving break was filled with a trip to Great Grandpa’s and Great Grandma’s for hunting and Thanksgiving day feast with family, then to Papa’s for his wedding. The weeks after Halloween leading up to Thanksgiving were filled with finding hunting, wedding, and winter clothes for the kiddos. I had seen a few cute ideas for Thanksgiving that I wanted to try out, but just never had the time. Better luck next time I guess.
I am proud to say that I did follow through on a Thanksgiving themed baggie. On Pinterest I found a site that a mom made a Thanksgiving packet for her young kids. I printed off the pages that I thought Ian would like. I’m trying to make the activities where they can be used more than once. I didn’t like the cost of laminating all the paper things and even if I print it on card stock, someone will write or spill something on them. I found some old clear contact paper (for shelves) that I didn’t need, so I’ve been covering some of the ones I want to keep. It’s not the best, but it helps. One downfall is it is not dry erase marker friendly, but it is not a big problem since we have dry erase boards from Noah and Caleb. They have been a great investment. Ian uses them daily and Noah will still use them when we practice spelling or site words. I cut them all out and placed them into baggies with labels- again to help for the next time. Ian has gone through them already and loved it. Eli even tried a few of the sorting and matching activities. They worked so well I went online and found a few more worksheets to add.
My sister also came to visit before Thanksgiving. She came for just a quick trip and went shopping with me and the kids. She helped shop for Noah’s winter clothes, me some pants for the wedding. My sister made a comment that since we weren’t going to see my mom for Thanksgiving I needed to get to work on some hand print Thanksgiving turkeys from the kids to grandma. Well I saw an idea and thought I would use it. Only problem was the amount of time I didn’t have. I colored all their thumbs and made little turkeys out of their thumbprints. I scanned them onto the computer so I could make cards for all the grandparents and great grandparents- great idea, right?! I even thought that scanning the prints would help me make the cards faster. I had talked to the boys about what they would thank my family for since I had to have that one done before the others since my sister was coming up. The boys gave some really good ideas and I put it into the card and done!
