School Fun
Noah and Caleb both had Fall Parties at school. I bought bags, candy, and we had pencils left over from last year. I found online cards with Halloween jokes on them that the boys thought were funny. We decided we could use those as the tags. I pulled everything out for the boys to load into the bags and I got “is that it?” So, I pulled out the candy I bought for trick or treaters and we added it to their bags. We made 40 bags for them to take. That afternoon they said they both enjoyed their Fall Parties. The week before during Red Ribbon Week they had a “Vote Day”. The kids wore their red, white, and blue and got to vote for what they wanted to dress up like on Halloween. I guess this was the school’s way of compromising on costumes. The choices were Cowboys, Superheroes, and Rock Stars. Rock Stars won, so we raided the closets for outfits. Noah had bought himself a Paper Jam guitar years before and we had a broken Guitar Hero guitar for Caleb to complete their outfits. Of course, nothing says Rock Star like crazy spiked hair!
Trick Or Treat
When I picked up the big boys at school I asked them if they were going to stay Rock Stars or change. After thinking over their options they both decided to just stay Rock Stars. I didn’t mind, two less kids to worry about. We treated everyone to pizza for dinner and Caleb spilled some on his shirt, so he changed his shirt before we went out. Makaela got tired of waiting to put on her costume so she put it on before dinner. Then she fussed about it and wanted it off. The tulle was itchy to her so we had to put a shirt and shorts under the outfit. We also pulled her hair back into a bun and added a little glitter to her cheeks. I don’t even think she let us take a pictures where you could tell.
Before the actual trick or treating she was really fussy. We couldn’t even get her to take pictures with the boys for a while. In her defense she did have a tooth still coming in and she didn’t take the best nap since we had ran some errands earlier that day (a trip to get more candy since the boys decided what I bought for their classes wasn’t enough). Ian was a pirate and since it was a warm evening we let him wear his cut of shorts. It changed up the costume from when Caleb was a pirate a few years back. John gave him a few scars and an unshaven look. Eli was a very cute cowboy with his mustache.
The plan was to just got trick or treating in our neighborhood. We don’t have a big neighborhood, but the houses are spaced out so it can take a while to hit every house. Last year since we were meeting all the new neighbors we didn’t make it to the end of the street. We thought we would take the wagon incase any of our little treats wanted to rest. It quickly turned into the bucket and accessory holder. John didn’t mind, it was a lot easier to pull that way.
When we started actually going door to door, Makaela stopped her fussing and went into “ultra cute mode”. She had the cutest “Trick o Treat”, “Thank You”, and “Happy Halloween”. The boys were fast basically running from door to door. Makaela and Eli kept up with them. They had the problem of shorter legs, and Eli’s horse kept tripping over his feet.
We also had Captain America join us with his little sister Rapunzel. They are friends of ours from Texarkana that live one house over. It was Rapunzel’s first Halloween and she didn’t fuss at all as we kept her up way past her bed time. It was Captain America’s first time going door to door. He is such a cute kid and was so funny to watch him experience this for the first time.
This year we made it through the entire neighborhood. The walk back we made the big boys carry their candy buckets so the little ones could ride in the wagon. They kept saying how heavy they were. Makaela didn’t stay in the wagon the entire trip. I did figure out that she wanted the candy and once I told her she had to wait till she got home, she felt like walking. She still wanted to hold her bucket though.
We let each kid have one small piece of candy before getting ready for bed. I think everyone enjoyed Halloween.
The next day I organized all the candy. I like having it separated so I know what we have and what I’m willing to give away. My sister Mary was already asking for a candy care package like I sent her last year. When Eli saw my buckets he told me he needed to go trick or treating again, so he could get some more candy. I told him we had enough!
