Hunting is something John’s Grandpa shared with him as he was growing up. Great Grandpa has stories of when he was younger and the hunting trips he would go on. My family is not into hunting and other than Great Grandpa, John’s family isn’t either. It was something that John and Grandpa bonded with and that is why John wants his boys to have the same experience. I may not be a big fan of hunting, personally I get bored; but I love the fact that the boys get to experience it with their Great Grandpa. It is a part of Grandpa that will continue through the generations.
Things weren’t going the greatest. When we got to Grandpa’s Friday night, Caleb’s cough seemed pretty bad. Makaela got up a few times that night just crying a little then going back to sleep. Saturday John woke up not feeling very well, but took the boys outside. We had bought Noah a bb gun, so he could use it there. When we got it I told him that I was going to wrap it and put it under the tree for Christmas. He didn’t like that idea; but loved the bb gun. John gave him a lesson on safety and how to use it. Noah was on cloud nine. I think it made him feel more like a big kid, since there were so many rules and a big responsibility with it. I know I felt like my little boy was growing up.
They came back in because John wanted to rest some and then things went down hill. Makaela started running a fever and John and Caleb weren’t feeling well. Makaela’s temperature got up to 102. Caleb was off and on. John slept and felt a little better. Saturday evening they tried hunting, but it was more like a deer watching. They saw about four doe. John got a cute picture of Ian.
I spent most of the day either sitting on the couch with Makaela in my lap or laying next to her on the bed. She was really congested and had a cough. After the boys went out that night Caleb wasn’t doing well, so he laid on the couch the rest of the evening.
After a very rough Saturday night with Makaela and thinking she may need to go to the ER because her breathing wasn’t sounding well we decided to go home. John and I really didn’t want Grandpa and Grandma to get sick. We also just needed to get everyone home where maybe they could get better. There is really no place like home when you are sick.
We were back home by lunch time. The rest of the day was a lazy day trying to see how John, Caleb, and Makaela were doing. Noah, Ian, and Eli spent the day trying to not be bored or upset the sick ones. Monday morning I was on the phone making doctor appointments for my three sick babies. I actually had lost my voice a little. To me it was no biggie, since I had done it before when I was teaching. John was the first one with an appointment. Even though it was too early for the doctor to know exactly what he had, she gave him a steroid shot and some nasal spray for his symptoms. Then Caleb and Makaela had an appointment and we found out they had croup. The doctor even said that she thought I had it since in adults it will make you lose your voice. Caleb was basically already getting over it and Makaela was given a prescription for a steroid.
Makaela was still sitting on my lap a lot. I was trying to browse the internet with the IPad when she decided she would rather take pictures of us.
She gets so spoilt when she is sick! We did figure out that she takes after her dad when she is sick. He admitted to wanting to be spoilt when he doesn’t feel good. I felt bad for John since he did take vacation days that basically turned into sick days. Tuesday he was getting his usual cabin fever. He was feeling a little better, but being stuck inside was making him crazy. He even wanted to put up the Christmas lights! I convinced him we could wait, since he didn’t need to over do it just yet. I’m not so sure it was the cabin fever or the fact that a few neighbors beat him putting up lights this year that made him want to get ours put up. Noah wasn’t making it better when he would go outside and come in letting John know who all had stuff up. I guess next year I will have to let him put them up when we take down the spider web!
