Blessings

All day yesterday I thought about where I was on 9/11.  Ten years have gone by so quickly.  I talked to Noah and Caleb about what had happened since they were seeing pictures on the news and in papers.  I don’t really think they truly understand it.  I pray for all of those that lost a loved ones, friends, and those who tried to comfort and help.  It is a tragedy that I pray never happens again.

As I thought I realized how BLESSED we are as a nation.  We live in a nation where for the great majority of us, our children do not and will not truly understand something like 9/11.  Images of war torn countries came to my mind.  Stories of countries fighting in the midst of the children.  Even the war that started after 9/11 has not been fought on our soil- Thank God.  My prayers also went out to all of those who live with war every day.  I thought of stories from my dad, when he first started overseas he was in Algeria, Africa.  When I was in middle school I remember him talking about how life in Algeria was so different from ours.  The way they look at life is nothing like Americans.  He told about riding in a convoy of large oilfield equipment trucks and other vehicles; one of the trucks hit a person and the person laid on the side of the road as the truck my dad was riding in passed by.  Of course he asked the driver why didn’t he stop.  The driver explained that the area they were in was not safe and if he stopped they could all die.  We are blessed that are we have not grown numb to death.

We as a nation stand of for those without a voice, those that can’t stand up for themselves and stand against those that think killing is an answer.  Here in our own nation and across the world we try to give people hope and we pray that one day everyone will be able to share the blessing of peace.
We are blessed.  I pray that we all continue to share our blessings with others and stand up for those in need.  I read this in the newspaper yesterday and thought that was fitting.

“A handful of people can wreak great destruction in a short period of time.  Could the opposite happen?  Could a group of people perform as powerful a good act so quickly?” - R. Naveill

The opposite did happen, has happened and will continue to happen.  The only problem is that even though we may have acted quickly the road to peace is a long one.  The paper went on to add…

“It is far harder to create than to destroy.  That’s why the builders of our world are the ones honored by history.” -M. vos Savant

Yesterday, we honored those affected by 9/11 and the wars that followed; may we honor them everyday in prayer and appreciation for our blessings.
May God continue to Bless America.
