Celebrating Ian's birthday made me think of how it all started. When I realized I was pregnant with Ian I was standing in front of my 5th grade class. I don’t know why but I had been thinking “what if” for a few days, but kept casting the idea aside because I just couldn’t see it being real. Then that day it just hit me. A few days later it was confirmed. I don’t think I ever had another moment like that with any of the other kids. I guess Ian just wanted to make his presence known- he hasn’t changed!

| Ian watching tv with big brothers- 2 days old |
Ian fills our days with laughter as you watch him try to dance or tell a story about "his school". Being number 3 doesn’t mean he is going to be left behind by his big brothers. He can dance “cool” and has tons of moves to show you including his head spin. Then as the big boys tell their stories of their friends at school Ian has started to tell stories about his school- referring to his old daycare. I’m amazed at all the new stories he has that I never heard about while he was actually going to that school. He also can read even though we are still having some trouble identifying some letters. Again if Noah and Caleb can do it- so can Ian!!

I’ve often wondered where he gets his hyperactivity, then I just look at John and myself and understand- he has both of our “can’t sit still” nature in a lethal dose! Even though he wants to be like his big brothers, he is still one of a kind. I never know what he is going to do next. I try to guess what he might be when he grows up- an actor, a comedian, a stunt man… but you just never know!

On Ian’s birthday he helped me make his birthday cupcakes and turn the icing blue- his favorite color. He and Eli even tried it out to see if it would turned their tongues blue. Grandma told him about licking the beaters and so I had to let him. I haven’t really baked much so he was excited to give it a try. This may have been his first time! At 4!!! We ran to the store trying to find some food coloring and Ian struck up a conversation with the cashier telling her it was his birthday. She asked him what he wanted and everything he said were new items he had never mentioned nor pointed out when we walked him through the toy aisles. I was keeping my fingers crossed that he would still like what we had gotten him and wouldn’t be upset.

We had a little family party and even though his birthday list changed; he really liked what we got him. Such a good kid! Now, I do have to mention in case you didn’t know when you turn 4 you are automatically a “big” kid. You grow out of bikes and should be big enough to do even more things that “big” kids do. Ian had to be reminded that he didn't outgrown his bike overnight, and unfortunately he still has 2 years to go before he can start Kindergarten. Never a dull moment!
