Valentine’s Day and More

The week was full!!!  We had the 100th day of school on Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Valentine’s Day on Thursday, and early dismal on Friday.  My calendar for the week looked like I couldn’t fit anything else on it.  But I managed to also throw a doctor’s appointment in there on Thursday for myself.

Since we had a lot going on that week I had tried to plan everything out on when it needed to get done.  I should have been a little better planning because I should have planned on doing Noah’s Valentine’s Day box he had to decorate that weekend.  Monday, I found a box for him, good thing I save almost everything.  Then I went online and found some ideas.  I had no clue what we were supposed to do with this thing.  I forgot about the one we did way back in his Pre-K years, we wrapped it and put stickers on it.  I wish I had remembered it.  I showed Noah some ideas online to let him start thinking what he wanted to do with it.  After looking through pictures and talking about ideas, he picked a Minion from Despicable Me.  I’m so glad my husband can draw!  When John got home we showed him the ideas and Noah and him discussed the plan.  We painted the box yellow that night and let it dry.  Tuesday was the 100th day of school, so the boys were supposed to dress like they were 100 years old.  Monday night we got clothes out for it.

Tuesday morning when the boys woke up, Caleb decided he didn’t want to dress up.  He had PE that day and didn’t want to be an old man for it. Noah decided to go ahead with being an old man.  I used baby powder in his hair to help him look he had white hair.  He loved it.  Then we found John’s hat that I thought would help him look the part as well.  The sweater he wore was actually a nice sweater we have had a while, but it really helped him look the part.  Noah had fun playing the part of the old man while I took pictures.

That afternoon they came home and I had them start on Valentine’s Day baggies.  I knew we wouldn’t have time on Wednesday night with church, and when John got home Noah needed to work on his minion, so I thought I had it planned well enough to make the most of our time.  This year I was not in as creative of a mood as I was last year.  I tried to go to the store on Tuesday and grab just a box of cards, but after going to two stores and not finding any, I had to go to plan B.  I bought candy, stickers, and bouncy balls to put in bags.  I printed off labels that said “I hope you have a ball this Valentine’s day” to go with the bouncy ball.  My kitchen table was covered as the boys made their bags and wrote out the names on the labels.  I also got candles for their teachers and we made a tag and tied a bow around them.  I was impressed with how much we did since I really wasn’t wanting to do so much.

Poor John came home in the midst of homework time with a migraine.  He took a short nap before dinner and woke up feeling better.  We got to work on Noah’s minion.  We try and make sure the boys do the   majority of their projects.  His minion doesn’t really look like he did the majority of it, but he really did.  I helped touch the paint.  John of course drew the clothes and such.  Noah loved it when it was all done.  He couldn’t wait to take it to school.  They were having a competition on their decorated boxes.  Before he left for school the next day we took pictures of Noah and his minion.

That night we went to mass for Ash Wednesday.  Mass went well and we were over the “hump” for the week.  Thursday morning the big boys loaded up all their Valentines Day goodies.  Then I got the little kids and myself ready for my doctor appointment.  I wasn’t sure how this was going to go.  I was very nervous.  They have been to eye doctor appoints, but not a doctor appointment yet.  It was just a normal check up for insurance purposes, so nothing to stressful for me health wise either.  The kids did very well.  Makaela looked a little worried when she saw the nurse taking my blood pressure and temperature.  She isn’t the best at her doctor visits, so she was probably making sure they were not going to “hurt” mommy.  After I saw the doctor, she wanted to have blood taken to run some routine tests.  The doctor actually took the kids to get a sticker while the nurse drew the blood.  I guess she had had a bad experience with a little kid trying to help her once.  She was finishing up when the doctor brought them back in.  I hadn’t been to this doctor yet, and I have decided that I love them.  I took the victory and then the kids and I ran a few errands.

That afternoon, the boys got home and we found out that Noah won 2 out of 3 awards for his minion.  The class voted for “The Most Colorful”, “Class Favorite”, and “Most Unique”.  He got “Class Favorite” and “Most Unique”.  He said he wished he had added more color to his little minion.  No, he is not competitive.  Both boys had all their candy from their class party.  Caleb told me I could eat his candy.  Like I need permission.  I’m such a good mom.  I make sure my kids don’t eat a lot of candy, by eating it for them!  Okay, I did feel a little bad that my kids feel like they don’t get to keep their candy from things like this, because their mom eats it all.  I guess I should let them have a piece before I eat it all, maybe.

I tried a new Chinese food recipe for Valentines Day.  Thought I would try to do something special, since we didn’t have anything else planned.  This year really is not as well thought out like last year.  Everyone liked the Chinese food.  I even made noodles for Caleb, since he doesn’t like rice.  The kids got to use their chopsticks that Grandma got them for Christmas.  I think that was the highlight of the meal.  The kids always take a long time to eat, but with chopsticks it was an extra long meal.  Ian was the last one eating, amazing that he is my skinniest kid with how much he eats, so I snapped a picture to send my mom with the chopsticks.  I don’t think that he was happy with me interrupting his eating.  Sorry kid, I was getting bored watching him finish!

Friday, I picked up the boys from school.  They got out half a day and wanted to get home early to spend as much time as they could outside.  After a few chores, they got to go outside.  That night we ended the week watching a family favorite, Swamp People.  The season started, so our Fridays are basically planned out now.  It was a pretty busy week, but we survived with little problems.
