John’s Birthday weekend

I have to say that John is the best husband ever.  I’m not just saying that because it is his birthday.  Even on his birthday he seems to put his family before himself.  He hasn’t really been into celebrating his birthday.  I think he tries to go through the day without people realizing it is his birthday, I think Facebook birthday reminders has ruined that game for him.  I’m thankful he isn’t too big into his birthday.  Even though nothing was really planned it still seemed to have been a nice quiet family birthday.  This year he took off half a day the Friday before his birthday.  I thought it was great.  He brought lunch home for us that we got to enjoy while the kids had their nap.  I felt special because he didn’t go out to lunch with the guys he works with like he normally does on Fridays.  He also picked up some movies for a Friday night movie night.  The kids enjoyed Hotel Transylvania.  I thought it was a cute father-daughter movie.

Saturday, his actual birthday, we went out and bought landscape lights that he had been wanting to get for the house.  He very nicely picked to eat lunch at my favorite place McAlister’s.  While the boys ran to the store, Makaela and I went and got hair cuts.  She kept saying she wanted hers cut, but when we put her on the chair she started crying.  She calmed down and was fine when I put her on my lap in the chair.  So, she got her hair cut again, sitting in my lap.  I got mine cut after her.  She got off my lap and went and played at the kids table they had.  She is pretty funny, she can play without mommy, but she can’t get her haircut without me.  Hers turned out cute, mine I’m still trying to get used to.  John said it looked nice, but it is a lot shorter than what I wanted.  Oh well, it grows back.  I got a few pictures of Makaela and her new cut.

We had a crawfish boil planned, John’s choice for his birthday.  At home that afternoon Makaela and I made cupcakes for him.  John hung out in the garage watching the boys play basketball as he boiled crawfish, shrimp, potatoes, corn, and sausage.  Makaela got the picture below while she was playing with my cell phone.  Not bad.

Caleb and Ian were VERY excited for Dad’s birthday dinner.   We decided that Caleb and Ian can eat more crawfish than John and I.  This is why we can’t go to Joe’s Crab Shack anymore.  Everyone enjoyed the dinner.  Noah doesn’t eat seafood so I made him some Mac and Cheese.  After he was done, he sat at the table with us and helped get stuff that people needed.  I enjoyed him playing waiter, because John and I didn’t have to keep getting up.

After dinner we had cupcakes and the kids sang Happy Birthday Daddy.  I used the mini cupcake pan again this year, which can be very dangerous for a cupcake lover like John.  They are so easy to pop in your mouth!  The boys had a cupcake race.  John had four to the boys one each.  When John said go Eli popped his entire cupcake in his mouth no problem and started chewing.  Caleb followed suit.  Noah shoved his in his mouth only to figure out he still had the wrapper on it.  It was halfway out of his mouth so I grabbed the wrapper and pulled it out.  Noah sat there laughing trying to chew but couldn’t, so I helped and shoved the cupcake in his mouth.  Ian laughed the entire time, not sure if he even tried to race.  All the while John is shoving his four in and trying not to laugh and choke as he also watches the boys.  Caleb claimed he finished first, about the same time John said done.  I think Eli may be a close second.

The next day we went to church, ate lunch, and put up the outdoor lights.  Noah had class that night, so I took him while John kept the other kids at home.  When Noah and I got home, the new lights were on.  It looked nice. Our neighborhood gets really dark, so the lights are a much needed addition to the house.  Now, we need to think about plants in our flowerbeds.

It was a nice birthday weekend, spent with family.  John seemed to enjoy it and we have left over cupcakes, so that is a plus!

Happy Birthday to the greatest husband and dad!!  We love you!!!
