Crazy Friday
The last week in January was still a little crazy. We just can’t seem to get things going right. We were all looking forward to Friday. Fridays are supposed to be laid back to kick off a stress free weekend. The first day of February I guess voided the usual Friday flow. The three little ones were bent on making a mess all over my house. Toys everywhere. I felt like I was making them take “cleaning breaks” every hour just to keep the mess from getting too far out of hand. After getting some other things done, I decided I was going to give the boys haircuts before dinner. I thought I had it timed out where I would be finishing up Eli and Ian before the other two go off the bus. Their hair was getting way too long for me. Here are some before pics.
I was getting close to having Eli finished when Ian came into the bathroom crying and gagging. I finally figured out that he had swallowed a plastic charm that the bigger boys get in PE. I told him if he needed to throw it up let it happen. He calmed down and I found another one to send a picture to John for his opinion. I sent it with the note Ian swallowed this, do you think he needs to go to the ER?
I wasn’t sure if it was small enough not to cause a problem as it went through his system. He seemed to be able to breathe and could swallow a drink of water, but how do you know for sure. I get a little more worried now that we live about 15-20 minutes from a hospital and if it is anything major they have to be air flighted to the Children’s hospital in Dallas. Since time is always on my mind I don’t want to wait too long before making that decision. John thought I should call the nurse, so I did. He headed home just in case. The receptionist was very nice about my crazy question and told me a nurse would call back soon. Ian seemed fine and I really wanted to make sure he understood how dangerous swallowing something he wasn’t supposed to could be. I would have never thought that my 5 year would swallow something he isn’t even supposed to have in his mouth! Needless to say when the nurse called back she said he would be fine.
I finished Eli up while waiting on the nurse to call back. The other boys showed up and Noah was not excited about cutting his hair. He didn’t want me to cut his long hair. With Ian and Eli I went shorter than I had the times before, but still left it a little longer. John had Caleb and Noah convinced that they wanted short hair like him. Noah was up next. I wasn’t brave enough to cut his as short as he now thought he wanted. He had SO much hair to cut off! Caleb had me convinced he wanted his as short as John’s so I did it. I was covered in hair by the end, so was my bathroom. Makaela kept asking me “my turn”, but I’m not brave enough to cut her hair. I guess we will try that one later. The boys didn’t turn out too bad. Everyone is liking Caleb’s short hair, so I might be back to cutting in a few days since others are asking to be like Caleb and John now. Here are some after pics.
After cleaning up hair, showers, and dinner John and I thought it would be fun to make a tent for the kids. We got the extra sheets, clothespins, and strung one up in Noah and Eli’s room. They were super excited as we were building it. I guess we got the best parent award that night. We took a few pictures before saying goodnight. They were all too excited to sleep I guess because after a lot of talking and playing they finally fell asleep.
Saturday the tent was knocked down, but they tried putting it back up. John and I finally stepped in before bedtime again and fixed it for them. One more night in the tent before the weekend was over. That night they all fell asleep a lot faster.
I guess looking back, the last bit of January and start of February may have seemed rough; but they had some good memories in there too. Through the rough spots it’s nice to have some nice memories to hold on to.
