My Funny Chunky Monkey

So, once again I am behind on my blog posts.  Never fails, living life gets in the way of writing about it! Well, Eli has had a few funny moments here lately and I just had to put them down on the blog before I forgot about them.

Oh Eli,

Before school started the boys had the song “You’re Amazing Just the Way You Are” stuck in their heads. They got it from this little kid we found on you tube “Matty B”. He is a pretty cute kid about Noah’s age or older. He takes popular songs and redoes them, and is pretty good. Well, he redid this song for his little sister who has down syndrome. I cried when we watched the video, it was SO sweet. The boys kept singing the line over and over. I was getting a little tired of it as Ian sung it one more time, so I said “awe Ian that’s so sweet to sing it to me.” Ian of course looked at me funny, Noah and Caleb laughed, then Eli walks in and says in a serious tone “Mom, you’re amazing just the way you are.” We all started laughing. He is so stinking cute sometimes! Of course after that, his big brothers started to copy him. But nothing is like the original!

One night we were watching Smurfs, when Eli came up to John and said “please change this I don’t like this movie.” John told him that everyone else was watching it so we would leave it. He again told John he didn’t like the movie, so John told him he was Silly Smurf. Now, it’s another nickname for Eli. He is pretty funny about it because when you call him Silly Smurf he will say “I not silly smurf, I chunky monkey.” He laughs with his big grin on his face because what ever you call him he loves the attention.

John was getting ready for work one morning, when Eli walked in the room and yelled “GOOODMOOORNING DADDY!” I was in the kitchen and smiled. I’m sure it made John's morning.

Also, when Makaela was sick we watched a lot of movies on Saturday; one being Cars 2. Eli loves to quote Mater. When ever he thinks something is funny or thinks he can get a laugh with it he will pop up with “That’s funny right there.” And yes, it usually is funny, but his little voice and movie quote he just made it even funnier!!

The week before heading to Austin the kids were a little hyper.  Ian and Eli one evening were bouncing off the walls.  I had asked them to calm down, stop running, etc.  John had asked them to calm down, stop playing in the living room, etc.  So, when they didn’t listen we sent them to time out to “calm down”.  After their time out, we brought them into the living room and asked them why they were in trouble.  Ian gave his best generic “because I wasn’t listening and doing what I was supposed to” spill.  Eli tried to repeat.  Then John asked “What does it mean when we say calm down?”  Eli mumbled something, so we told him to speak up like a big boy.  We had NO clue what he said because if we had even the slightest idea we probably would not have asked him to say it again.  John asked again and this time he spoke up and said “Call me maybe” in his very serious and I hope this is the right answer voice.  John tried to hold it together.  I turned my head and tried to contain my laugh.  I couldn’t!  I put my head down and busted out laughing.  John joined in.  I don’t know if Eli learned what “calm down” means but I think he did learn that if he makes mom laugh dad can’t hold it in either!!  What a parenting team we make!

Our funny Chunky Monkey!    or   Silly Smurf!!  Either way this kid can keep you smiling.
