Valentine’s for my sweet

Warning this post some may find a little too sweet.

John and I were not do anything for Valentine’s Day.  We really don’t buy into all the hype.  I really do mean “buy” into the hype.  I like flowers, but I would rather not get tem on Valentine’s Day since they seem to be double what you would pay any normal day.  When we were still dating John would get me roses and then get my mom flowers for her birthday- 4 days later.  It was always the same- I got a small beautiful bouquet of roses and my mom got this huge  beautiful bouquet of flowers that would last a long while.  He of course would have spent more money on my small bouquet, but it always amazed me that just a few days later mom could get such a wonderful arrangement for a lot cheaper.  Now it just seems a waste to get flowers on Valentine’s Day.  Don’t get me wrong he has surprised me with flowers on Valentine’s Day in the past and I enjoyed them.  No girl in her right mind would turn down flowers on Valentine’s Day!!!  It’s just I don’t NEED flowers… I know he loves me.  He has to, he’s stuck with me.  Winking smile

Now we do try to surprise each other with something little, like a card or candy.  We make them small and try our best to not let the other know.  This year after seeing ideas on Pinterest about 14 days of Valentine’s I thought I could try that.  I had thought about using their cute little tags, but I thought I would go old school.  John used to fill my locker with sticky notes; (he shared a locker with me our senior year) and I thought I would go back in time a little. Since John’s birthday is right before I didn’t want to do the 14 days.  Instead, I came up with 5 little gifts.

I was pretty proud of my plan.  I’m bad about keeping secrets like this and it is always hard to hide things from John.  Not only would my cheesy little gifts show the best husband in the world he was loved- they would also be a total surprise!  There was no way he would know I did this.  There was no money trail, since all the candy I was using I had bought for Noah and Caleb’s classes.  I also used things we already had around the house.  Easy and I got it ready early; so no last minute stuff like the boys Valentine’s.  I stashed the gifts where he wouldn’t even notice them, even though they were under his nose for a week.  The first plan was that I would start the Friday after his birthday and have a gift a day until Valentine’s day.  That plan got scratched because knowing John, if I started to give little gifts he would got out and get something over the top.  I decided to hold on to them all until the day and hide them.

I hid them in his lunch, his bag for work, his truck, on his phone, and his wallet.  He seemed to like the constant reminder all day long.  I’m glad I didn’t wait till the last minute, because I woke up that morning with a cold.  Not a very romantic day with a running nose and aches, but a good one.  I had my own surprise that day when he came home with Girl Scout Cookies.

Some of the best things in life are the simplest!  Cookies, candy and sweet love notes made up a wonderful 16th Valentine’s Day together.
