The Deck Project

The Deck Project is officially underway.  We have bought some of the wood and other supplies.  John took off work the Friday after his birthday to start on it.  He and Ian got the frame built right outside the backdoor.

I went out there after taking care of some chores inside and helped put the frame up for the right side.

The plan was that John’s dad and brother would come down Friday and Saturday to help work on it.  We weren’t planning on finishing it this weekend, but we thought we would get a good start on it.  We were checking the weather all week.  The Weather Channel and news stations kept saying that Friday and Saturday would be in the 50’s.  Cool, but not freezing.  Friday started off nice and then by the time we went outside the temperature was slowly dropping.  John laughed at me when I put the hood on from my sweatshirt.  The breeze was a little much for me.  Then as we checked the weather again that night, Saturday was going to be in the 30’s with a COLD wind.  No more deck for me!

Sunday, after all our helpers left John thought it wasn’t that bad outside.  Again it started out like that, sun was shinning.  I finished eating my lunch and helping the older boys find clothes to go outside to help John.  Then by the time I got out there, the sun went behind the clouds and it was COLD!  I had on leggings, jeans, long sleeve shirt, short sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, and fleece sweater.  This time I also pulled out the ear warmer!  John even had on a few layers.  We braved the cold and worked on the deck some more.

That night we had a little snow.

We are hoping to do a little more when we can in the evenings, then more on the weekends.  I’m sure it will be a slow process, but we will hopefully be done in no time and enjoying our nice deck come spring!
