Back in August I found a great Groupon deal for discount tickets to Dinosaur World in Glen Rose, TX. We remembered we had them this month and found out they expired in March, so why not use them now with the weather being so nice.
We decided to go last Sunday since it was supposed to be sunny, a little windy, but very warm- 70 degrees! I think it actually got up to about 78 while we were there. A BEAUTIFUL day to enjoy outside with the family. It was an easy and short trip, only one movie (our kids measure time in the car by movies) to Glen Rose.
We didn’t really know what to expect. We looked over the website, but just didn’t know how it would “really” look. I have to say it was pretty neat! The website said they had picnic tables so we decided to grab lunch and take it with us. That worked out great! We enjoyed the weather and got to figure out our plan for Dinosaur World!
After lunch we mapped out our hunt for dinosaurs- okay the trail was only one way!
This adventure we changed things up. Noah got to be the head navigator and Caleb the photographer. Even though the direction was pretty much a given, the map still holds power when you can whip it out of your back pocket and say “let’s go that way!”
While everyone else was visiting the little dino room, Caleb and John practiced using the camera to take pictures of themselves by the entrance dino.
Then we got a picture of all the dino hunters!
We were off on our adventure!
The kids really enjoyed themselves. We would stop at each site to look at the dinosaurs. Some we would read about, some we would just look at their “scary teeth”, hear stories about how they “get you” or how “that one not scary” from Eli, how that one was on Dinosaur Train (TV show boys watch), or on the dinosaur movie (Jurassic Park). Then as soon as the attention span was over; it was off to the next one. When I say “it was off to the next one”- it was a dead run with squeals and yells of what they would see hiding behind the trees. Even Makaela got into it yelling with her brothers at the next dinosaur. Her and Eli with the little legs would sometimes fall behind, but where quick to catch up with the big boys. A few times some, especially Eli, would get caught up in a big dinosaur that was around the corner they would skip a smaller group right in front.
Here are a few of Caleb’s dinosaur pictures.
Eli kept checking out the baby dino in the egg trash cans, so Caleb got a picture of him. The boys kept yelling “That’s not one, Eli!”
After the trail, John fed the kids to the T-Rex head!

Caleb took a self portrait in front of the T-Rex’s head.
Then they rode a few dinosaurs in the play area while we waited for time to dig for fossils.
And of course had to play.
The dig site was where the boys got to dig up fossils. Nothing too big of course. Just little shovels and cups that the kids use to find a few shark teeth (the treasured fossil with the boys) or other tiny sea creatures.
They also had a museum where we saw a fossil like Noah found in the back yard, replicas of dino skeletons, and much more.
ammonite fossil (like Noah found), Dinosaur tracks- our next dino adventure
We had a wonderful time at Dinosaur World. For our little dino- enthusiasts, it was the best day ever! We are probably going to try to make another trip to Glen Rose, this time for the Dinosaur Valley State Park to see the dino tracks in the riverbed. That trip we are planning on making when it is a little warmer so the boys can walk around in the water and maybe even do a little fishing.
We can’t wait for our next Dino Adventure!!!
