Spring Break
Spring Break was the 12th through the 16th. Since then I’ve been pretty busy. I usually do most of my blog writing in the evenings, but I have been so tired I just haven’t been able to. Here’s the recap of our spring break.
The break gave me a sneak peek at what this summer is going to be like. Monday was a good day with a trip to eat lunch with friends from Texarkana. We all enjoyed seeing the Goff family. They were on their way to Ikea and we were glad they were in our area. The boys were hyped up at lunch having to tell random stories about everything! Lacey and Jakeb are wonderful and really try to listen to all the stories. Makaela was entertained by baby James, she loves babies! She even sat with Lacey and Jakeb while I took all the boys to the restroom. Any other time, baby not included, she probably would have thrown a fit. I actually realized in the restroom that we had let her and thought, “Oh my, we better hurry and get back out there.” When we walked out she was sitting there hanging out with James. It was a good visit and sad to see them go. Can’t wait for the next time! The rest of the day we ran a few errands and then hung out in the backyard. The boys seemed to enjoy their first day.
Then came Tuesday. Some of my family were coming in on Wednesday and so we really needed to clean the house. The boys DID NOT like that. At lunch, Caleb said “I wish I was at school.” I asked, “So you don’t like hanging out with Mommy and your little bothers and sister?” Noah explained, “It’s just that we like school and wish we could go there some days.” This was an enlightening moment. I thought, “Wow, this summer I’m going to have my work out trying to keep them entertained.”
The house got cleaned and Wednesday before lunch my mom, Mary Kate, Bridgette, Ethan, and Rachel got to the house. Now, spring break was fun again. We ate lunch and went to the Frank Buck Zoo in Gainesville. We had never been there, but heard it was a nice zoo. I don’t have very many pictures to post right now. We have two cameras and well the “big” camera was stuck and giving me trouble; still kind of broken from Halloween. Then the “little” camera, which the boys usually take turns using when we got places, battery ran out. Good job, right?! Bridgette had my family’s computer, but forgot the cord so I could download the pictures before they left. I’m really curious to see them. There will be more to come when I get the pictures from my family.
Thursday, it was more fun with the Aunts and Uncle hanging around the house; while I had to go to the dentist. Not a very eventful day, but enjoyable. The kids played outside and Uncle Ethan taught the boys new tricks. Uncle Ethan can stand up and slide down the slide. Ian tried it a day after Uncle Ethan left and of course skinned up his knee as he hit the dirt and momentum threw him forward. I didn’t know at the time where it came from and asked Ian what he was thinking. He told me Uncle Ethan did it and of course that means to my boys, I can do it too!
Friday morning my family had to leave. The kids were sad to see them go, back to just having boring mom around. The rest of the day we hung around the house, mostly outside playing.
Saturday, we all planted new trees in our backyard. Like everything it was a family affair. John got the first tree pretty close to done by the time everyone got outside. I started on the hole for the second tree and had four other shovels “helping” me. It made it pretty hard to do anything. After a while most helpers decided to go play. Noah on the other hand, stuck with it and was the big helper of the day. He really enjoyed digging. That night he kept saying how sore his arms and back were.
Sunday after church we ended the week with a movie. We hadn’t taken all the kids to a movie since Cars 2. I missed part of the end of that movie out with Makaela after she woke up from a nap. This time she pigged out on popcorn and danced in my lap to the songs. Then she got tired she fell asleep quickly. When she woke up, she looked for more popcorn and watched the ending of the movie. I was really impressed that she sat through the movie without fussing. The boys were glued to the movie. In the glow of the lights it was funny to look across the aisle and see them all sitting there mesmerized by it.
It was a good spring break. And the boys were actually sad to see it end, despite the comment about wanting to be at school at the beginning of the week. They are now counting down the days until they are on summer break. Not too much longer!
